Grandfather Walter L. Fisher was honored at Hanover College (Hanover, IN) as part of their homecoming activities on October 1, 2016. Grandfather was a 1883 graduate of Hanover College (and great-grandfather Daniel Webster Fisher was the President of Hanover College at that time). Walter and Mabel Fisher, Daniel and Amanda Fisher, and Ruth Fisher (Rhetts) are buried at Hanover Presbyterian Cemetery, which is just west of the campus. Right after graduation Walter worked as Sigma Chi Fraternity’s Grand Consul and helped oversee the establishment of the first fraternity Chapter House at Hanover College in 1888; Walter was in charge of planning and financing the completion of the Chapter House. The Undergraduate and Alumni Brothers of Chi Chapter of the Sigma Chi International Fraternity raised funds to erect a plaque at the site of the original Chapter House to commemorate the First Chapter House of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and to honor Sigma Chi Brother Walter Fisher.
